Jordan visits new Shanghai venue
Eddie Jordan became the first Formula 1 team principal to visit the site of Shanghai International Circuit, the venue which will host the inaugural Chinese Grand Prix in 2004
Jordan was given a tour of the 5.45km circuit, currently being constructed close to the commercial heart of Shanghai. Circuit President Mao Xiaohan confirmed detailed plans to develop the new complex as a facility for the local population.
"What I have seen here today is a vision for how F1 and motorsport generally can play an important part in many aspects of developing a country's economic and cultural growth," said Jordan. "I am most impressed by the plans for the new circuit - a fantastic project which will set new standards for F1 and bring global awareness of the high standards in Shanghai."
Mao Xiaohan added: "As the Chinese Grand Prix of 2004 is approaching, we are very delighted to welcome new friends to Shanghai. Currently, the construction of Shanghai International Circuit is well on schedule.
"We are confident to deliver an exciting circuit and hold a successful Chinese Grand Prix, and we hope all drivers and teams will enjoy competing here. Moreover, we feel very glad to see that every team shows their passion and care to our circuit and today, Mr. Eddie Jordan's personal visit is warmly welcomed. It is our hope that every driver and team can achieve great performances here in Shanghai."
