Jenson Button Q&A

While Eddie Irvine and Jaguar stole most of the limelight, Monza was also a good race for Renault, as Jarno Trulli and Jenson Button scooped up some useful points with fourth and fifth. It was Button's first score since his sixth place at Magny-Cours in July, and took his personal total for the season to 13. The Englishman has just two races left with Renault before he heads to pastures new at BAR, but it's interesting to note that he's still being asked to test for the team, when the usual practice is for departing drivers to turn up only for the races. Some see that as an indication that his contribution to the team has been much appreciated by the Enstone engineers, and that he will be missed. Adam Cooper spoke to Jenson after the race

"It was one of those races like Hockenheim last year where a few people fell out. We started well back but the good thing was we were actually able to overtake people as well. We got past a lot of cars in the pit stops and even on the circuit, myself and Jarno, and it's good for us both to get in the points again. Especially for Jarno, as he's had a couple of really tough races where he should have been in the points."

"Not really. The launch control worked really well, but I got stuck behind Panis. I thought he'd jumped the start. I couldn't really go anywhere down the outside or inside or anything."

"He made a very good start, down the outside. When you're that far back you've got nothing to lose, and you can see what's going on. He took his chance and went to the outside and it worked. He got in front of me there, then I got back past him, then I overtook de la Rosa and ran wide, and he got back past me again! It was quite exciting, the first lap."

"It's a little bit disappointing that I couldn't really get to grips with the car. On the first run the car was slightly oversteery, although it was working OK towards the end of the stint. On the second run I had huge understeer. We didn't change anything on the car, it was just really big understeer, and I was losing out at the Lesmos and Parabolica to Jarno. So I thought I've got to let him past, because he's going to lose so much time. Well actually I was ordered to let him past!"

"It is very important, and it's nice to have two more points."

"It was encouraging, but I'm not going to look too much into it yet! But they seem to be doing a good job."

"I haven't got a clue. I like the place, and Jarno's gone well there before. It's not as low downforce as Monza, but the car should be working well."
