Jaguar second but Eddie unhappy
Jaguar Racing's home Grand Prix got off to a good start in Friday practice at Silverstone, Eddie Irvine ending the day second fastest
However, the Irish driver was far from happy afterwards.
'We learned absolutely nothing,' he said. 'Whenever it was raining heavily there was just no point in being out there.
'The car was aquaplaning everywhere, so I came straight back in. It's impossible to tell where we are relative to everyone else.
'The wind is totally different to last week's testing, so even in the dry we were back to square one.'
His team-mate Johnny Herbert had yet another disastrous day, losing the entire morning session with an air valve problem. Unable to complete any dry laps, he ended up at the foot of the timesheets.
'It was just a normal day for me,' Herbert sighed. 'It is always something different, somewhere, and it keeps rearing up its ugly head.
'It's not good for me and the team doesn't need it. It's silly that it's still happening, I went through all this last year.'
Jaguar advisor Jackie Stewart showed sympathy for Herbert's plight in the face of rumours that test driver Luciano Burti will take his drive unless the Englishman's performances improve.
'I always said I didn't believe in bad luck,' Stewart said. 'But with what's been happening to Johnny I'm not so sure now.'
