Jaguar: No change for Malaysia

Jaguar have ruled out making any changes to their troublesome R3 car before next week's Malaysian Grand Prix because of a lack of time

Eddie Irvine and Pedro de la Rosa hit an all-time low for the team at last weekend's Australian GP, only managing to qualify 19th and 20th at the Albert Park circuit. The team is so concerned about the performance of their new car that they are evaluating switching back to a developed version of last year's R2 chassis.

But with just over a week between the Australian and Malaysian races, there is no time to implement any changes before the second round of the season. Contrary to reports immediately after the Melbourne race, the R3s have not been flown back to Europe because of the time limitations.

A Jaguar spokesman said: "We will run the R3 in Malaysia and they will be exactly the same cars that ran in Melbourne. Beyond that it remains to be seen what will be done."

For more details of Jaguar's plight, plus the views of team boss Niki Lauda and technical director Gunther Steiner, see this week's AUTOSPORT magazine, on sale tomorrow (Thursday).
