Irvine: punishment will not stop Schuey
Eddie Irvine believes that docking Michael Schumacher the 10 points he earned for his controversial win in the Austrian GP will have no impact on the German's charge to a fifth world title
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Schumacher's former team-mate argues that such is Ferrari's superiority that the championship is already a foregone conclusion.
"Who really cares if they take the win away from him? Instead of winning the world title by 50 points, he will win it by 40," said Irvine.
"If he was banned from the next two races, he would still win the damned thing. Unless they are going to ban him for five races - and that would be artificial - there is no point in doing anything."
Schumacher, current team-mate Rubens Barrichello and team boss Jean Todt will appear in front of the sport's governing body, the FIA, when its World Council meets in Paris tomorrow (Wednesday). They will be asked to explain their actions, in particular the way Barrichello was pushed up onto the top step of the podium and handed the victor's trophy by Schumacher.
