Honda hails 'immense' Button

The engineering director of Honda's Formula 1 engine programme, Shuhei Nakamoto, has hailed Jenson Button's performance in the San Marino Grand Prix for BAR as "immense"

Button qualified on pole on Saturday, and backed that up by leading for eight laps in Sunday's race before being overpowered by Ferrari's Michael Schumacher.

"Jenson has been immense all weekend," said Nakamoto. "To take pole the way he did and then drive so strongly all race really demonstrates his ability and also his obvious confidence in the car. Although we have made a good step this weekend, we have to find the same again to challenge for the top."

BAR team principal David Richards added: "Everyone in the team should be very proud of what we have achieved this weekend. Having gained the upper hand yesterday, Jenson did an outstanding job in the opening laps, but Michael found just a little too much pace for us today. There is always Barcelona in a few weeks. We're getting used to running at the front, and hopefully that will continue for the rest of the season."
