Hill slip-sliding away

Damon Hill notched up a not-so Magnificent Seven as he slipped out of the top 10 in qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix

The ex-champion took his total of slides off the A1 Ring to seven in two days with two more excursions on Saturday as he wound up 11th on the grid in Spielberg.

More disappointingly he was almost two seconds off the pace of pole winner Mika Hakkinen - having surprisingly set fastest time in practice on the first day.

'Whatever we had yesterday did not work today,' admitted Hill.

The former world champion had been looking to follow-up his sixth place in qualifying at the British Grand Prix, his best of the season, from where he went on to finish fifth in the race.

But Hill, who has finally ended the dithering over his future by deciding to see out the season, added, 'We had a difficult morning and qualifying was not much better.

'There were no real problems during the qualifying session, but the runs did not produce the kind of results we should expect.

'We will just have to work on getting the right set-up for the race to win some points.'
