Heidfeld sure he can win title with BMW
Nick Heidfeld is convinced he will be able to fight for the title with the BMW Sauber team, but he admits it will not be possible next year
The German squad were one of the surprises of the 2007 season, becoming the third strongest team behind Ferrari and McLaren.
In the end, BMW finished in second place in the standings after McLaren were stripped of all their points in the constructors' championship.
Heidfeld was fifth in the standings and the German driver reckons the team will be ready to start winning races next season.
The title, however, is still a few years away, he admits.
"That (the title) is more realistic than ever before, particularly since I am convinced it can be possible with BMW," said Heidfeld.
"It probably won't happen in 2008 but the goal of BMW is to win a race next season and then compete for the title. And that is my goal too."
Heidfeld also admitted he did not expect his team to be so strong this year.
"Before the season I didn't think we could be this strong," said Heidfeld on BMW's official website.
"I had expected Renault to be tougher challenge. I hadn't expected things to go so well."
