Heidfeld: BMW can go all the way

Nick Heidfeld believes that the new BMW-Sauber team can go all the way and fight for the world title in three-year's time - even though his bosses are playing down their prospects

The German has signed a deal with the outfit, which will keep him there until the end of 2008, and he is hopeful that the team can be fighting for the title by then.

"It is difficult to predict what is going to happen," he said at the launch of the BMW-Sauber team's new car in Valencia. "I am sure BMW does not want to set real targets because it might be difficult to achieve them, but I hope in three year's time that we can win races.

"And if you can win races then you should be in a position to win the World Championship."

In the shorter term, however, Heidfeld thinks that only good fortune will allow the team to deliver a victory this season.

"This year definitely we will need a lot of luck," he said. "You often have some strange races, like Monaco especially if it rains, and then we could stand a chance, but in normal circumstances probably not."
