Happy Irvine Glad to be Back on the Podium

Jaguar driver Eddie Irvine was delighted after scoring his second podium finish for the Milton Keynes team at today's Italian Grand Prix.

Jaguar driver Eddie Irvine was delighted after scoring his second podium finish for the Milton Keynes team at today's Italian Grand Prix.

Irishman Irvine, a former Ferrari favourite and honourary Milanese, put the icing on the cake for the local Tifosi with an unexpected third place for Jaguar. It was the first time that the 36-year old finished in the top three since the 2001 Monaco Grand Prix, where he scored his first ever podium with the Ford-owned squad.

"When I was at Ferrari it was podium, podium, podium so there is nothing like being away from it to appreciate it," said Irvine, who has scored all of Jaguar's points this year. "It's great, especially here in Italy.

"People ask me why I spend so much time here but looking out there you can just see why."

Irvine's third place allowed Jaguar to move to sixth place in the Constructors' Championship with eight points, only three behind Sauber. Teammate Pedro de la Rosa was unable to finish the race after crashing with Sauber driver Felipe Massa on lap 15.
