Happy Firman Says There's More to Come

Briton Ralph Firman responded to speculation surrounding his future at Jordan by winning his first ever points in Formula One with an assured drive at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Firman held off a late charge from fellow Brit Jenson Button to secure the final points-scoring position in Barcelona, and insisted he was getting better and better with every drive.

"It was absolutely brilliant for me and the team," said Firman. "To be on the scoreboard makes it an incredible weekend from start to finish. It has started to go really well. It's tough to adapt to F1 and it has been harder than I expected.

"But it's going well now and I'm slowly building up. I've got a lot more speed still left in me and I'm now looking forward to the next race in Austria."

Jordan conducted their pre-season testing at Barcelona and Firman admitted that, having come from Formula Nippon where he gained no experience of the Grand Prix circuits, knowing the track was a big influence on his improved performance.

"It makes a big difference to know the circuit," said Firman. "You come back here having tested and you can set up from the word go and that gives you a lift from the word go."

Firman, whose only finish before Sunday's race was a 10th place in Malaysia, claimed he could have gained even more points if he had not been held up by Williams driver Ralf Schumacher following his final pit-stop.

"The race went really well and I had a really good second stint. Unfortunately on the third stint I got held up by Ralf Schumacher who I think had run off and damaged the car."
