Grapevine: Webber set for Castrol Rankings boost
Mark Webber heads to the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend with a very strong chance of grabbing the number one spot in the Castrol Rankings from his Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel
With a 2011 contract now safely in his pocket and the controversial collision with Vettel in Turkey now having blown over - at least publicly - Webber should be full of confidence heading to Montreal.
If he maintains his current form, there is little to suggest he will have any trouble running at the front, and that could enable him to knock Vettel from the number one spot for the first time in 10 weeks.
Webber has been steadily closing on Vettel in the Castrol Rankings for the last nine races, starting with last year's Brazilian Grand Prix. Prior to the Interlagos race the German lay third while Webber was 10 places further back in 13th.
However, Webber has finished all nine races since then, winning three, starting four from pole, and making the podium six times.
By contrast Vettel has retired twice, won twice and taken three pole positions. Six of those races have resulted in him failing to finish on the podium.
Webber, who more than halved the gap to Vettel after surviving the clash and finishing third in Turkey, trails the German by a handful of points that roughly equates to the difference between winning and finishing second in Montreal.
However, the score the Australian is defending from the corresponding race last year is also lower than Vettel's, meaning he is less likely to drop points than his team-mate.
Should Webber extend his run of consecutive pole positions to four, and Vettel is no match for him in the race, he will almost certainly overtake his rival at the top of the Castrol Rankings.
