Grapevine: Fittipaldi thrilled to return to Montjuich
Former world champion Emerson Fittipaldi admitted that his emotions were running high as he took part in a special historic demonstration at the famous Montjuich Park last weekend
The Brazilian was reunited with the Lotus that he took to victory in the 1973 event, while Ferrari test driver Marc Gene also showed off a Ferrari F248.
Fittipaldi, speaking after taking to the streets that were lined with 200,000 people over the weekend, said: "Coming back here after all these years is fantastic.
"It's a very special occasion at one of the most beautiful street circuits that ever existed. The last two corners before the pits were something. They were uphill and, in terms of excitement, they were close to Woodcote, the flat-out right-hander we all loved at Silverstone.
"But Montjuich meant doing that kind of speed on a street circuit. It was a real challenge."
Gene added: "This homage has been really special. It is possible that the people that came to watch the event will never see such a fantastic collection of cars ever again.
"It will be pretty difficult to see so many working historic cars up close as it has been today, and all the more so in Montjuich where we do not race any more."
Montjuich Park was closed to public traffic over the weekend as part of the 'Martini Legends' celebrations to mark its 75 th anniversary.
As well as Fittipaldi and Gene's demonstrations, more than 20 Ferraris joined a parade featuring R8s, GTs, prototypes, Formula Two and Formula One cars.
