Glock Fights Nerves in First F1 Qualifying

Germany's Timo Glock fought his nerves to qualify in 16th position for tomorrow's Canadian Grand Prix.

Germany's Timo Glock fought his nerves to qualify in 16th position for tomorrow's Canadian Grand Prix.

"I was really nervous on my first qualifying lap as I have no experience of the one lap system so I decided to go quite easy and just see what the car was like," said Glock, making his Grand Prix debut this weekend after replacing Italian Giorgio Pantano.

Pantano, in his first season in Formula One, did not take part in Friday's free practice and a team source said a required payment to Jordan had been frozen while a dispute between his father and management was resolved.

"I'm not really satisfied with how it went and I think I may have been a bit too aggressive but I feel more comfortable and ready for the race than I did for qualifying so I'm really looking forward to tomorrow," added Glock, the fourth German driver on the grid tomorrow.

Since 1990, every German Formula One driver has raced for Jordan and Sunday will be the first time that the team has had an all-German line-up with Glock partnering Nick Heidfeld, who was 15th today.

"I'm very satisfied with that lap," said Heidfeld. "Driving-wise it was good and the car was also better. We have improved it significantly throughout the weekend so I'm really quite happy and I think we got the maximum out of it.

"Brakes and bottoming are not an issue any more as we resolved those things after yesterday morning so I think we are in good shape for the race."
