Gene Faster than McLaren Duo at Jerez - Final Day

Spaniard Marc Gene finished at the top of the times on the final day of testing at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit in Cadiz, Spain.

Spaniard Marc Gene finished at the top of the times on the final day of testing at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit in Cadiz, Spain.

The Williams tester completed a massive 130 laps around the Spanish track today, wrapping up a four-day programme for the BMW-powered team. Gene, who has been the only Williams driver in action at Jerez during the week, posted the fastest time of the week with the FW25 car.

The McLaren team continued with the development of their new MP4-18, with test driver Alexander Wurz returning to work following his heavy accident on the first day of testing.

On Tuesday, Wurz lost control of his car and crashed against the barrier at high speed, causing serious damage to the second MP4-18 chassis and forcing McLaren to work with only one new car on the remaining days of the test.

The Austrian was again the man in charge of driving the new machine, while Scot David Coulthard was at the wheel of the MP4-17D. Coulthard finished ahead of Wurz, who today covered 63 laps.

Today's times:
