Frentzen Predicts Tough Second Qualifying

Heinz-Harald Frentzen is expecting a difficult final qualifying on Saturday after a very poor start in today's first session for the Monaco Grand Prix.

Heinz-Harald Frentzen is expecting a difficult final qualifying on Saturday after a very poor start in today's first session for the Monaco Grand Prix.

Today's qualifying was forced to be halted for 25 minutes to clean up oil dumped on the track by the Sauber of German Frentzen, whose engine blew as he started his flying lap. The Sauber driver, who failed to start the last race in Austria due to a clutch problem, will run first on Saturday after being unable to set a time.

"It's very disappointing not to have completed my lap this afternoon, because of an engine problem that we are still analysing," explained Frentzen. "We saw how competitive the C22 can be this morning, and naturally I wanted to build on that. It's going to be tough starting qualifying first tomorrow."

Nick Heidfeld, who went out after Frentzen, was also hampered by his teammate's engine failure, as the track was slippery due to the oil and cement dust on his flying lap.

"My biggest problem this afternoon, of course, was the oil and cement dust laid down after Heinz-Harald's problem," said Heidfeld, who posted the 10th quickest time. "Without that I could for sure have gone a lot quicker, as the car was better than it felt this morning."
