Italian Giancarlo Fisichella has been the quickest man this morning at the wheel of the Honda-powered Jordan EJ11, lapping half a second slower than Eddie Irvine's fastest lap from Thursday. Compatriot Luca Badoer was second fastest driving the only Ferrari on track.
Briton Jenson Button was the fastest of the Michelin runners with the Renault, while teammate Jarno Trulli was replaced by Spanish sensation Fernando Alonso. The young Spaniard joined the Barcelona test today and after only nine laps at the wheel of the B201 he was slowest nearly fifteen seconds off the pace.
Olivier Panis and Anthony Davidson were again the men in charge of testing for the British American Racing team, the Frenchman driving this year's 004 while the Briton was at the wheel of last year's car. Finn Mika Salo, who began working at Barcelona yesterday enjoyed a positive morning, running faster than on Thursday with the Toyota.
The circuit was dry all day, but the start of the session was delayed due to a thick fog.
