Fisichella Pondering Future Away from Jordan

Italian Giancarlo Fisichella, who was handed his maiden Formula One victory today, says he is still dreaming of driving for a top team and suggested he would stay at Jordan only if the Silverstone-based outfit prove competitive.

Italian Giancarlo Fisichella, who was handed his maiden Formula One victory today, says he is still dreaming of driving for a top team and suggested he would stay at Jordan only if the Silverstone-based outfit prove competitive.

Fisichella, the first Italian race winner since Riccardo Patrese for Williams in 1992, competed in 110 Grands Prix and finally clinched his first victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix. He had led Sunday's chaotic race at Interlagos only to see Championship leader Raikkonen declared the winner on a countback.

Friday's hearing confirmed that one lap too few had been recorded.

"I feel very happy, very pleased about the win even five days later," Fisichella told Britain's Sky television. "It's very important even for my future because now I have won my first race in Formula One and after that I would like to drive for one of the top three teams.

"But if the Jordan is going to be competitive I could stay with them next year."

Race stewards' meeting in Paris awarded the Jordan driver his first career win, in what was his team's 200th race, and demoted McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen to second place following a timing discrepancy.

"Thankfully Formula One is not like football, here you can see the replay and mistakes are recognised and the results changed," the Italian told ANSA news agency. "I am happy for the win, I am happy that the FIA admitted their mistake.

"But the damage remains. I would have been the first Italian to win in 11 years and I was not able to stand on the top step of the podium. But it's still a win that will go down in Formula One history. And I got there in difficult conditions, in a car that is not a winning one."
