FIA Announce 2002 Provisional Calendar

The FIA, Formula One's governing body, have released the calendar for the 2002 championship and four races are still in doubt.

The FIA, Formula One's governing body, have released the calendar for the 2002 championship and four races are still in doubt.

The British Grand Prix continues to hang in the balance after the FIA's Motor Sport Council meeting in Cologne on Wednesday. The Silverstone-based race, which is due to be held on July 7th, is on the calendar but remains subject to the outcome of an inquiry into the traffic arrangements during this year's race.

However, it appears to be the continuation of a political struggle between Octagon, the organisers of the British Grand Prix, and the FIA, and it is unlikely the race will be dropped from the calendar.

Otherwise, the calendar has remained in a similar lay-out, with the three-week break still in the calendar, situated between the German and Hungarian Grands Prix. The British race is not the only one in doubt, and there are concerns over the two Italian races, at San Marino and Monza, with both subject to the conclusion of a new commercial agreement.

The Australian Grand Prix is also only provisional as the organisers await a coroner's inquiry into the fatal accident this year before being officially confirmed.
