Ferrari launch: Schuey fired up

World champion Michael Schumacher has sounded a warning to his rivals that he is not about to take his foot off the pedal, despite enjoying so much success over the past two years

The German won back-to-back drivers' title in 2000 and 2001, and also passed Alain Prost's all-time Grand Prix win record last year. But it has not been enough to satisfy Schumacher and he made it clear at Ferrari's new-car launch this morning that he wants a record-equalling fifth world title.

"I'd like to be optimistic," Schumacher said. "We have achieved some fantastic results in the past and I hope we will see more in the future. My motivation is there. Our targets are the same and we want to remain as world champions. Nothing is nicer than winning for Ferrari. They are my family and I'll do my best so that Ferrari can keep the number one."

His team-mate Rubens Barrichello is under pressure to continue making progress at the team, if he is to secure a long-term future at Ferrari that will stretch beyond this year.

"I can only say that I will do my best to try and have both championships won by Ferrari," said the Brazilian.

In two years, Barrichello has only won a single race for Ferrari. The Italian constructor's president Luca di Montezemolo said earlier this week: "If he takes a step forward in his relationship with the team and Schumacher then I don't see why we would change. There are not many drivers on the market capable of driving a Ferrari."
