Ferrari hail Bridgestone performance

Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn has warned main title rivals Renault that his team's tyre supplier Bridgestone are ready for anything Michelin can throw at them

Michael Schumacher's victory at the European Grand Prix delivered proof that Bridgestone are now back to their best following their troubles in 2005 - and Brawn is confident that they can maintain their form for the rest of the season.

"Bridgestone have made progress," he said. "The new constructions have allowed the tyres to run much cooler. The working temperature of the tyre generated by the carcass is much lower. It means that we can run softer compounds and they don't degrade as much.

"The mistake we made in Australia was not taking advantage of that. The fact we have such good tyres in the race is down to Bridgestone development.

"I was pleased with the tyres, there was a faster one on the single lap. But it was the consistency with them that won us the race. There wasn't a better tyre that Bridgestone had that we could use at this circuit."

He added: "There are a family of tyres that run in quite a wide range of conditions. When we get to the hot races in the middle of the year we'll be okay - we have a full complement of tyres. We have a good coverage for all the races."

As well as feeling bullish about Bridgestone's progress, Brawn claims that there is more performance to come from the Ferrari 248 F1 - starting at this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix.

"We have a small improvement in Barcelona with the front wing and there is quite a lot of work being done with the suspension in the next few months, which we hope will give some rewards," he said. "The first step is with rear suspension."
