F1 German GP: Mercedes and Ferrari differ on tyre strategies

Mercedes and Ferrari have again opted for marginally different tyre strategies for the German Grand Prix, the final race before Formula 1's summer break

For the July 29-31 event at Hockenheim, Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg have both chosen one set of Pirelli's medium compound, with four sets of the soft and eight super-softs.

It is the same choice as Red Bull pair Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen, along with Toro Rosso duo Carlos Sainz Jr and Daniil Kvyat and Manor drivers Rio Haryanto and Pascal Wehrlein.

Ferrari team-mates Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, meanwhile, have chosen three sets of soft and nine sets of super-softs - with one medium - the same as McLaren's Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso, and Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson at Sauber.

Every team has opted for just one set of mediums, accompanied by a combination of softs and super-softs, with the notable exception of Force India.

Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg will have three sets of the medium rubber, four sets of softs and six super-softs.

The other combination of one set of medium, five softs and seven super-softs is to be run by Williams, Renault and Haas.
