Ecclestone criticises carmakers and teams
Formula 1 impresario Bernie Ecclestone has criticised the major car manufacturers for trying to become too involved in the sport, and has hit out at the teams for wanting more say in how F1 is run
Ecclestone's comments is the latest salvo in the long-running dispute between the F1 tsar and the manufacturers, who have formed a rival company, the GPWC, to run its own championship from 2008.
"The carmakers should not get involved in Formula 1 too much," Ecclestone told German magazine Sport Bild."Their executives are only interested in winning. If they don't they lose interest at some stage."
Ecclestone feels that it is wrong of the team's to ask for more influence in making decisions that shape the future of the sport. "They are only concerned about what advantages they could have for the next race," he said.
"They never think about the next season and they never think about the sport. The teams now want more democracy. In my opinion it cannot work. As far as Formula 1 goes, I believe in dictatorship."
