Downbeat Fisichella Hoping for Wet Race

Jordan driver Giancarlo Fisichella is hoping for a wet San Marino Grand Prix after struggling in today's qualifying session.

Jordan driver Giancarlo Fisichella is hoping for a wet San Marino Grand Prix after struggling in today's qualifying session.

"Obviously this is not a good day," admitted Fisichella. "I'm very disappointed and confused because I don't know where other people are with fuel. Hopefully our strategy is good for tomorrow. I hope it's going to be wet."

Italian Fisichella, surprise winner of the Brazilian Grand Prix after it was cut short amid crashes and confusion, came back to earth with a bump by qualifying his Jordan 17th in front of his home fans. Fisichella was two seconds off the pace of pole setter Michael Schumacher.

Briton Ralph Firman completed a torrid day for the Silverstone-based outfit, qualifying in 19th position.

"It was a promising day before qualifying," said Firman. "But you only get one lap and I made a mistake at the first corner, locking up the front wheel and then had a big flat spot on the tyre. From that point on the rest of the lap was very difficult. It should be okay tomorrow."
