Doornbos still hopeful of Toro Rosso drive
Dutchman Robert Doornbos says he is still hopeful of landing a race seat at the Toro Rosso team this year
Red Bull's third driver last season says continuing testing for the Austrian squad is also a possibility, if he can combine it with racing in the United States.
Toro Rosso are the only team yet to confirm their line-up for the 2007 season, and although team owner Gerhard Berger has said Tonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed are favourites to keep the seats, the delay in the announcement has led to speculation over their future.
Doornbos' comments suggest the team are still open to other choices.
"Basically, nothing has really changed as I still target a race seat at Toro Rosso," Doornbos wrote on his website, "but I also keep my other options open.
"One of them is to test at Red Bull Racing and combine it with racing in the USA. Hopefully I can soon tell you more about my definite plans for '07."
Former Minardi team owner, who recently bought a controlling interest in the CTE Racing-HVM Champ Car team, said in December he was in talks with Doornbos over a race seat for this year.
