Dennis rubbishes Castroneves rumour

McLaren boss Ron Dennis has rubbished rumours that Penske Indy Racing League driver Helio Castroneves could replace David Coulthard in next year's McLaren-Mercedes line-up

Coulthard, who is in his seventh season at McLaren, is understood to have a contract with the team guaranteeing him a race seat next year, but that did not stop speculation starting in the Italian press

Commenting on the Castroneves rumour at Silverstone, Dennis said: "There are quite a few humorous things I could say in response, but the truth is I can't even spell his name. There is absolutely no foundation in that at all."

Despite Mika Hakkinen's name still being mentioned in the background, it is unlikely that the former double world champion will return to the cockpit after his 'sabbatical' year, but McLaren test driver Alexander Wurz is known to be seeking a return to a full race seat for 2003 after last being a part of the entry list in 2000 with Benetton.

The Austrian is still being linked to Allan McNish's seat at Toyota, where the chief designer is countryman Gustav Brunner. For what it's worth, Brunner and Wurz were seen in close conversation again at Silverstone. If McNish does lose out in any shake-up, one suggestion is that he could swap roles with Wurz and go to McLaren as test driver.

As far as any changes to his team were concerned, Dennis would say only: "We are not winning at the moment and when that is the case, you have to evaluate every aspect of your operation. There are a range of decisions we are currently working on and should be in a position to say something within the month of July."
