Dennis Plays Down Williams' GPMA Move

Williams were singled out earlier in the week as a non-signatory of the agreement that came out of a meeting in Munich between the manufacturers and teams that had not yet committed to Formula One beyond 2007.

The document unified the manufacturers in remaining committed to the breakaway.

But speaking at the Japanese Grand Prix, Dennis said that little should have been read into the situation because none of the teams had signed up to the plans - it was only the manufacturers that were meant to do so.

"There is a little confusion with what came out of Munich," he said. "The document (reported not to have been signed by Williams) was only signed by the manufacturers and it bore heavily on the corporate governance, transparency and values.

"It did not need to be endorsed by the teams present. Williams did not sign it but we did not sign it either, no team was required to sign. It was binding the manufacturers together in an extremely strong way."

Dennis has also claimed that the biggest factor to be resolved between the manufacturers planning the breakaway and F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone is actually how the sport is run - rather than the financial rewards for teams involved.

"One thing worth clarifying is the weighting is not a 70 percent money issue, 30 percent regulatory - it is the other way around. It is 70 percent regulatory and 30 percent money.

"The regulatory situation is what really concerns the  manufacturers, the teams want a bigger slice of the commercial cake."
