Davidson Tops the Times at Monza- Day Two

British test driver Anthony Davidson was fastest at the Monza circuit, where seven Formula One teams continued testing for the second consecutive day.

British test driver Anthony Davidson was fastest at the Monza circuit, where seven Formula One teams continued testing for the second consecutive day.

The BAR-Honda driver covered a massive 113 laps of the Italian track and outpaced Ferrari's tester Luca Badoer, fastest on the opening day of work. The Italian driver, the busiest man with 120 laps, finished less than a tenth behind Davidson.

Ralf Schumacher, the only Williams driver in action at Monza, was third fastest, outpacing the two Toyota cars on track today. Both Brazilian Ricardo Zonta and Frenchman Olivier Panis worked for the Japanese squad, who enjoyed a productive session as the pair completed almost 200 laps between them.

McLaren's David Coulthard joined the test today with the MP4-19 chassis, the Scot covering 117 laps and setting the sixth fastest time. Brazilian Felipe Massa was involved in an accident that shortened his session.

Massa suffered a drive shaft failure when travelling down the main straight, the quickest part of the track. While the young Brazilian escaped injury in the incident, the team decided to call it a day after just 17 laps.

"A problem with a drive shaft caused damage to the left rear suspension," explained race engineer Giampaolo Dall'Ara. "This incident occurred when Felipe was approaching the first chicane, however, he was able to keep control of the car. We decided to interrupt the test today.

"We are now doing a thorough analysis in order to understand the exact reason and plan to continue our test programme tomorrow."
