Coulthard hopes to strike gold at Silverstone
David Coulthard has set his sights on becoming the first British winner of the British Grand Prix in four years
The Scot is the home fans' best hope of victory after he qualified third behind Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard.
'It would be mega, brilliant, if I could get on the podium. But I really want to be on that middle spot at the top,' he said.
'I feel I am due a break after the bad luck I have had this season and it would just take one or two good results to really get my championship kick-started.'
But again Coulthard was hit by the gremlins as a spin at the beginning of the weekend, and an errant rear of the car he could not control put him off his stride.
'The back of the car was difficult again and I just didn't seem to get the same balance I had here last week in testing.
'Obviously I am not happy to be that much off qualifying pace, but in the circumstances I was not able to get the back end stable all weekend so I concentrated on not sliding further down the field after I got third.'
But, he refused to say his championship hopes are over.
'Anything could happen in world championship. This is a low scoring year in terms where the leader is.
'I am not thinking about the championship, just on the race and each race as it comes. I will have an input on the championship - even if it is to support Mika.'
