Burti keen to race at Monza

Prost driver Luciano Burti is keen to race in the Italian Grand Prix in 10 days' time despite the fact that he has yet to be discharged from hospital following his 150 mph accident during last weekend's Belgian Grand Prix

The Brazilian went straight on into a tyre barrier after colliding with Eddie Irvine's Jaguar during Sunday's race and suffered bruising to the brain and blood clots in various parts of his body.

The 26-year-old was taken to the University Hospital in nearby Liege and despite making a speedy recovery, doctors have decided to keep him in until the end of the week and are unsure as to whether he will be fit enough to race at Monza.

"I want to race again," said Burti after getting out of bed for the first time today (Wednesday).

Burti has been released from intensive care and has been moved to a ward room where he is thought to be out of bed and walking around.

"Now is the moment when Luciano has to stay resting," said Gary Hartstein, a member of the FIA's official team of doctors. "We are still doing examinations and following his recovery step by step. He is getting better and better. We will wait some more days until we can precisely say when he will be able to be discharged and go back to his daily routine."
