Brawn says titles were no easy ride

Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn believes that just because the Italian team has wrapped up this year's Formula 1 drivers' and constructors' World Championships with four races still to run, does not mean it was an easy ride

Michael Schumacher sealed his fourth world title with a win in Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix and clinched Ferrari's third consecutive constructors' championship. The F1 drivers' crown has not been decided with as many races in hand since Nigel Mansell became champion, also in Hungary, in 1992 - but Brawn says this year was no walk in the park.

"We have won some great races this year," said Brawn. "And our opposition had some problems at the beginning of the year, which certainly helped us. But it was not an easy championship, it has just finished early."

According to the British technical ace, who is the brains behind Schumacher's race strategy at Ferrari, this year's brace of titles mark an era of dominance for the Maranello team. However, it will not be complacent and is not planning to surrender its position at the top.

"I think we are in a Ferrari era, but we will not take anything for granted," said Brawn. "We will work very hard to continue this great period of Ferrari history. We are excited about the car we have for next year and we have two very good drivers, so let's hope it continues."

In order to take a clean sweep this year, Schumacher's team mate Rubens Barrichello is aiming to move ahead of McLaren rival David Coulthard to take second place in the drivers' championship. The Brazilian currently trails Coulthard by just five points.

"Our ambition now is to do everything we can for Rubens and get him second place in the championship," said Brawn. "There is still a lot to fight for."
