BMW ready to wait on Glock

BMW Sauber are ready to wait for Timo Glock to sort out his Formula One future before they decide their test driver plans for next year

Glock is currently in talks with Toyota about a race seat for 2008, but the Japanese manufacturer are unlikely to make any firm commitment about the seat until near the end of the season.

And while Glock holds out for that chance he is unable to sign a new test driver deal at BMW Sauber.

The German car manufacturer have made it clear, however, that they are happy to give Glock more time - even until the start of next year.

BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen said: "It is clear that we will have only one test driver because we saw this year that even one test driver doesn't get as much mileage as he should get.

"We would prefer to stay with Timo, but it depends on his situation. We will keep the door open for him. If he pursues other opportunities we will find a replacement. In the November test we would anyway prefer to have the race drivers in the car."

Although Theissen intends to only have one test driver next year, moves are being made by teams to make it mandatory for them to run a set amount of testing mileage with young drivers.

"Yes, there is a discussion currently with the aim to allow for 3000 extra miles devoted to young drivers but no decision has been taken yet.

"We have to wait and see how it is framed. But if there is a guy we want to give a chance to, then we will do it. But we will not just put anybody in the car just to accumulate the mileage."
