Barrichello tops warm-up

Rubens Barrichello was fastest in the warm-up for this afternoon's inaugural Malaysian Grand Prix.

The Stewart driver was briefly over a second clear of the opposition, although a late effort by David Coulthard closed the gap to less than a tenth by the end of the half-hour.

The qualifying order was virtually maintained, with the Stewarts, McLarens and Ferrari's leading the way. However, the title contenders seemed reluctant to show their true potential, abandoning several fast laps to return to the pits.

In a fairly uneventful session, Ralf Schumacher, Jarno Trulli and Tora Takagi were all hampered by mechanical problems, while Damon Hill paid two visits to the gravel, escaping unscathed on both occasions.
