Barrichello Stays Quickest at Barcelona - Day Two

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello stayed on top of the times on the second day of this week's testing at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain.

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello stayed on top of the times on the second day of this week's testing at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain.

Ferrari driver Barrichello, fastest in the morning session, went even quicker in the afternoon as he concentrated on tyre testing for Japanese manufacturer Bridgestone. The Brazilian driver posted a best time of 1:17.646 to finish nearly half a second ahead of his teammate Michael Schumacher.

The German driver, who crashed on his first lap of the day, was able to get back to work in the afternoon after the team repaired the damaged F2002. Italian Luca Badoer drove the third F2002 chassis, finishing as sixth fastest, as he also worked on a tyre programme.

Australian Mark Webber was a promising third quickest with the new Jaguar R4 which, after being unveiled today over the Internet, completed its first real test following a brief shakedown in Belgium last week.

Webber, who suffered a mechanical problem that hampered his progress in the morning, finished over a second slower than Schumacher and ahead of Briton Anthony Davidson and Canadian Jacques Villeneuve.

The BAR driver, at the wheel of the new 005 chassis for the first time since its launch, wound up fifth fastest after only 14 laps.

Italian Giancarlo Fisichella, who was unable to set a time in the morning due to problems with his Jordan, covered only 16 laps as he continued acclimatising to the new EJ13 chassis.

"We had various problems today, but fortunately we know why they happened and we overcame most of them to get the car out and running again in the afternoon," said Jordan's Gary Anderson. "Giancarlo was able to do three timed laps on dry tyres, and the last runs highlighted a small problem which will be rectified overnight ready for tomorrow.

"I'm pleased that we were able to collect some data from dry track conditions, giving us something useful to analyse to help us understand the car better."

Testing at Barcelona resumes tomorrow.
