Barrichello Quickest Again at Silverstone - Day Two

Rubens Barrichello continued to dominate testing at the Silverstone circuit, where the Ferrari driver topped the timesheets for the second consecutive day.

Rubens Barrichello continued to dominate testing at the Silverstone circuit, where the Ferrari driver topped the timesheets for the second consecutive day.

The Brazilian and teammate Michael Schumacher were again at the wheel of the F2003-GA, while the Italian squad's test driver Felipe Massa, who was hit by mechanical problems for the second day running, worked on tyre testing for Bridgestone with the old F2002.

Barrichello and Schumacher, meanwhile, concentrated on set-up work, with the German finishing as third quickest behind Jaguar driver Antonio Pizzonia, who as the only man in action for the Milton-Keynes outfit posted the second fastest time more than half a second behind compatriot Barrichello.

Nick Heidfeld was fourth fastest with the Sauber, although the German driver had a troubled day filled with mechanical problems.

Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya was again carrying out testing duties for the Williams team. Montoya was the busiest driver with 87 laps, concentrating on tyre testing and set-up work in long runs and finishing in fifth place.

"Our test programme continued at Silverstone today with Juan Pablo completing endurance runs for a new engine spec sign off," said Sam Michael, Williams' chief operations engineer. "During the session we also tested several different tyre compounds and casings as well as running set up options for the Grand Prix here in a month's time.

"We've managed to complete a solid number of laps whilst clocking some respectable times so we are pretty happy with the progress we've made today."

Montoya finished ahead of BAR drivers Jenson Button and Jacques Villeneuve, who joined the test today replacing test driver Takuma Sato. Briton Button, testing for the first time since his accident at the Monaco Grand Prix, outpaced his Canadian teammate despite his day coming to an end earlier than expected due to problems with his car.

Testing will continue tomorrow.
