Barrichello Leaves Barcelona On Top - Day Fourteen

Rubens Barrichello recorded the fastest time in testing at Barcelona on Saturday as he ended Ferrari's three-day test at the Circuit de Catalunya in the best possible fashion with a new lap record beating Jean Alesi's 4 days old record with close 4 tenths of a second.

Rubens Barrichello recorded the fastest time in testing at Barcelona on Saturday as he ended Ferrari's three-day test at the Circuit de Catalunya in the best possible fashion with a new lap record beating Jean Alesi's 4 days old record with close 4 tenths of a second.

Brazilian Barrichello recorded a best lap of 1:18.606 seconds in clear conditions in Spain as the rest of the field failed to get within half-a-second of his time.

"I am happy with what we have achieved," said Barrichello, who on Saturday focused on tyre and electronics testing and practice starts. "There is still a lot of work to do, but it is a sign we are on the right road."

Nick Heidfeld continued his impressive start with Sauber as he recorded the second quickest time of 1:19.156 seconds. German Heidfeld was almost two seconds quicker than team-mate Kimi Raikkonen, who was sixth in the times.

Enrique Bernoldi showed his potential as the new Arrows driver finished third in the times with a best lap time of 1:19.569 seconds.

Brazilian Bernoldi, who was announced as a replacement for Pedro de la Rosa this week, beat Jordan's experienced racer Heinz-Harald Frentzen into fourth place while British American Racing's Olivier Panis, who had topped the times for the last two days, was fifth.

BAR's test-driver Darren Manning drove alongside Panis and the British driver was sandwiched between Benetton pair Jenson Button and Giancarlo Fisichella in the bottom-three of the times.

During the 14 day marathon F1 test session at the Circuit de Catalunya Rubens Barrichello set the fastest time with 1:18.606, followed by Jean Alesi with 1:18.991 and Nick Heidfeld clocking a time of 1:19.156, while Jarno Trulli completed the longest total distance with 1740 km/368 laps and BAR accumulated a total of 3176 km/672 laps.
