Barrichello Goes Fastest at Jerez - Day Two

Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello set the fastest time on the second day of the official testing at Jerez, Spain.

Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello set the fastest time on the second day of the official testing at Jerez, Spain.

The day was marred by an overnight rainfall, which left the track completely wet and in fact the tarmac would not dry until the evening. All drivers began the day with wet-weather tyres and later ran with intermediates.

"It was a frustrating day for everyone," said Tim Holloway, head of engineering at Jordan Grand Prix. "It was difficult in the sense that the rain would stop and, just as you thought the track might dry, it would start again. It meant there was no dry running at all and the track conditions were changing all the times."

Holloway also revealed that the drivers complained of a general lack of grip and a track which remained dirty.

The surprise of the day was Juan Pablo Montoya, who set the second fastest time - just two tenths of a second behind Barrichello. The Williams driver was in fact fastest at the end of the morning session, which was run entirely in the wet, and impressed the onlookers with his driving in these conditions.
