Barcelona, day 2: DC on top

McLaren will be pleased with its day's work at their Barcelona testing session today (Wednesday). The team's drivers scored a 1-2-3 in the testing times war

David Coulthard, Kimi Raikkonen and Alex Wurz all completed a substantial number of laps, with Wurz doing the equivalent of just under two Grand Prix distances.

The honour of the most laps, however, went to Renault's Franck Montagny. He clocked 123 tours of the circuit at Montmelo. Today was Renault's last permitted private test day of the season. Of course, they will have the usual Friday morning extra track time at the last two races.

"Today was a fitting end to a very effective year's testing," said Renault Technical Director Mike Gascoyne.

The third team present was in-form Toyota, represented solely by Cristiano da Matta.

The strong show of reliability from McLaren will be encouraging for the team. Kimi Raikkonen needs to finish both remaining Grands Prix to have any chance of the world title.
