Coulthard Not Expecting More Wins in 2002

David Coulthard believes his McLaren-Mercedes team will not make any further steps to improve their performance until their 2003 car is introduced next season.

The Scot, who confirmed his future with the team at last weekend's German Grand Prix, has seen a strong improvement in their pace in recent races but believes it will take a major step to return them to constant potential race-winners.

"I don't think we will be able to turn things around until we get a complete new package next season," Coulthard said after the race in Hockenheim on Sunday. "We are just trying to work away and develop our package.

"We are probably going to float between the third row and the podium between now and the end of the season. I think as we have said the gap has fluctuated a lot in the middle part of the season."

Coulthard, who won the Monaco Grand Prix this year, is still in the chase for the runners-up spot, but finished fifth at Hockenheim behind rivals Juan Pablo Montoya, who finished second, Ralf Schumacher in third and Rubens Barrichello in fourth.
