Andersson Encouraged Despite Point-Less Race

The Toyota Formula One team missed out on what could have been their third point-scoring finish of their rookie season after both Mika Salo and Allan McNish crashed out of Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix.

Both drivers had qualified in the top ten despite the Japanese squad competing for the first time at the tight and tricky streets of the Monte Carlo circuit. But Scot McNish made a driving error while running in the top ten crashing against the barriers at the Sainte Devote corner.

Teammate Salo, competing in his 100th Formula One Grand Prix, also crashed out of the race after his car suffered a problem with its brakes. Despite failing to cross the finish line, team boss Ove Andersson was encouraged by their performance.

"Overall it has been a very competitive weekend for the team," said Andersson after the race. "Practice and qualifying produced our best ever results. We could have finished in the points today, but without the problems a lot of other teams could say the same.

"It was particularly encouraging to see Mika able to fight for position with a Ferrari."
