Italian Giancarlo Fisichella is hoping his Honda-powered Jordan team will be more competitive at the Canadian Grand Prix in two weeks time after their second consecutive point-scoring finish.
The Jordan driver, who have failed to finish in the top six before the Austrian Grand Prix two weeks ago, repeated his Austrian result by finishing again in fifth place today at the Monte Carlo circuit. Fisichella was pleased with the result, and is hoping for more in Canada.
"It's a great result for me and the team," said Fisichella. "I expected do well here as I am confident on this circuit, especially when the car is going well. When I made my pit stop, the car was feeling good and the tyre grip was much better than in qualifying.
"A few weeks ago it was difficult to imagine that these last two results would be possible. I'm hoping at the next race, with an improved engine, we will be more competitive. "
Team boss Eddie Jordan was also encouraged by today's result after a disappointing start of their 2002 season. However, the Irishman refused to get carried away and claimed the Silverstone-based squad have still a lot of work ahead.
"This is the second race in a row that we've been in the points and while it was encouraging to be fighting with Renault again, it's important to remember we still have a long way to go," he said. "We hope Honda will have an upgrade on the engine for Canada and we have a few other things to try, so hopefully we can make further improvements."
