Brazilian Enrique Bernoldi is hoping to finish his first Formula One season in a positive way despite a disappointing performance in today's qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix.
Brazilian Enrique Bernoldi is hoping to finish his first Formula One season in a positive way despite a disappointing performance in today's qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix.
Arrows driver Bernoldi, who is yet to announce his plans for the 2002 season, was able to outqualify his teammate Jos Verstappen at Suzuka, but the Leafield-based team endured a tough session which saw their drivers finishing in 20th and 21st positions.
The rookie was happy to finish the session in front of his more experienced teammate, and despite his poor grid position, Bernoldi is hoping for a positive result on Sunday.
"All in all qualifying went to plan for me today," said Bernoldi. "I made steady progress throughout the session but had trouble with traffic on my last run. I'm happy that I beat my teammate but obviously I am not happy with the position on the grid.
"Hopefully we will be able to have a good race tomorrow as it would be good to have a positive end to the season."
