We've Got a Lot to Learn, Says Head

The Williams team still have a lot to learn, technical director Patrick Head said on Sunday after a disastrous Belgian Grand Prix for the BMW-powered outfit.

"Just as we got quite a few things right yesterday, we made some very severe errors today both in the settings of the car and with problems that occurred on the grid," Head said.

"The important thing is we understand what we have done and make sure we put it right in the future. It is quite clear we have still got a lot to learn."

Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya had claimed pole position on Saturday, with teammate Ralf Schumacher completing a front row lock-out at the Spa circuit. However, Montoya stalled his car at the start of the race and was sent to the back of the grid before retiring with an engine problem.

Schumacher wasn't much luckier than his teammate, the German also being forced to start from the back of the grid. Schumacher fought his way up the field, but eventually had to settle for seventh place just outside the points.

"We had enough problems for a whole season in this race," said BMW boss Mario Theissen. "On the first start Juan Pablo's engine died and then on the second start Ralf's car was not ready in time.

"Then during Ralf's pit stop the air gun malfunctioned, and overall we just didn't have the pace we needed today. This makes zero points at the end of the day, and this is what we deserved."
