Alonso Delighted with Performance at Home GP
European Minardi's Fernando Alonso may have only finished in 13th position at Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix, but the Spanish driver continued to impress with his performance at the wheel of the Italian team's PS01.
European Minardi's Fernando Alonso may have only finished in 13th position at Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix, but the Spanish driver continued to impress with his performance at the wheel of the Italian team's PS01.
At only 19, Alonso drove yet another an impressive race in a car which has been hardly tested during the season, constantly putting Benetton's Giancarlo Fisichella under pressure during the first part of the event. He then was able to pass the Italian courtesy of his pit crew.
Alonso managed to finish the race in front of both Benettons, and he admitted he was very happy with his performance at his home Grand Prix.
"I am really delighted because I believe I drove a pretty good race today," Alonso. "Even the lap times I was able to put in surprised all of us. For the very first time, I felt totally comfortable in my car today, and what pleased me most was we were not so far from our rivals.
"Even if they overtook me, they didn't pull away so quickly, and in one or two cases, I managed to stay with them for some laps."
