Coulthard Happy with McLaren Chassis

David Coulthard will be trying to stay out of the gravel in the next race at Barcelona this weekend -- because he wants to stay with the chassis he is running for as long as possible.

The team have a cyclic method for changing chassis, but Coulthard's current chassis seems to be his lucky one, and he does not want to lose it.

"I am particularly keen to keep this chassis as long as possible and when I do change to another one, I'll be hoping I get this one back again," Coulthard said.

"It is difficult to explain why, but in some cars, you just feel more comfortable than in another. We tend to stay with the same car for a number of races. Purely from a cycle point of view the car will have done enough miles before being stripped down, re-sprayed and then put back on the track.

"Obviously, if I go off on the gravel at a Grand Prix, it might be taken out of the system sooner. Apart from the aesthetics of it, from an aerodynamic point of view, you don't want to race a car with chips in the paintwork.

"I prefer not to change chassis that often, which is an incentive to keep the car out of the gravel. You do feel more comfortable in a certain car. They are all built in the same mould within microns of one another in terms of their dimensions, but they do vary ever so slightly."
