Montoya Quickest for McLaren at Jerez - Day One

Formula One teams got back to work at the Jerez circuit just two days after the end of the previous test at the Spanish track.

Ferrari, McLaren, and Toyota were in action today.

McLaren driver Juan Pablo Montoya, who did not test at Jerez last week, posted the quickest time of the day with a best lap of 1:16.545 as he continued working on acclimatising to the Mercedes-powered outfit.

The Colombian worked alongside Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa, third today in the second McLaren.

Italian Jarno Trulli, who was forced to miss two days of last week's test due to an eye infection, was second quickest in the first of the Toyotas, the Italian outpacing his German teammate Ralf Schumacher, fifth fastest.

World Champions Ferrari continued working with both their test drivers Luca Badoer and Marc Gene, who had a very busy day of testing, covering 220 laps between the two.

All three teams will resume testing tomorrow, when Williams, BAR, Renault and Red Bull are expected to join the session.

Red Bull are scheduled to work with Christian Klien, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Neel Jani during the week, although speculation about David Coulthard testing for the team intensified after the Scot's motorhome arrived at Jerez today.

The team, however, declined to comment on Coulthard's rumours.
