Montoya Aiming for Strong Result for Williams

Juan Pablo Montoya dedicated his front row qualifying position for the Brazilian Grand Prix to the staff at Williams-BMW on Saturday and promised to try his best to go out on a high in his final race for the team on Sunday.

Colombian Montoya and his British team have been racing all year in the knowledge that he will join McLaren-Mercedes in 2005 after his deal was revealed at the end of last season.

After qualifying second behind Ferrari driver Rubens Barrichello for his final race with them he said: "I am very happy. It is my last race for Williams and I want to thank everyone back at the factory.

"I am going to try to do the best for them tomorrow and it is going to be exciting. We should be very strong and hopefully I am going to get a good start so I can keep up with him."

Barrichello pipped Montoya to pole by just four hundredths of a second after Montoya took a cautious approach to the first corner but he had no regrets and claimed the Brazilian had more pace to find if he had needed to.

"The lap was very good and I would have been close to Rubens but it would have been hard to beat him anyway," said Montoya. "They are normally very quick but my car has been feeling very good here."

Montoya has struggled with a poor performing Williams this season and not only has he failed to win so far this season he has not set foot on the podium since he finished third in the San Marino Grand Prix in April.
