Saturday First Free Practice - British GP

Kimi Raikkonen continued his form in Saturday's first practice session for the British Grand Prix as he set the pace at Silverstone.

The Finn completed just five laps of the track in McLaren's new MP4-19B but his late lap of 1:19.315 was enough to secure top spot after the opening 45-minute session.

Home favourite Jenson Button put in only six laps but ended second quickest, 0.153 seconds down on Raikkonen, with Ferrari's world champion Michael Schumacher third ahead of team-mate Rubens Barrichello.

Schumacher had managed to control a spin at Brooklands towards the end of the session as he pushed hard to improve his time, before Raikkonen took the honours with his late lap.

Williams-BMW's Juan Pablo Montoya was fifth ahead of Renault's Jarno Trulli, McLaren's David Coulthard and BAR-Honda's Takuma Sato. Fernando Alonso, of Renault, and Williams-BMW's Marc Gene completed the top-ten.

Minardi drivers Gianmaria Bruni and Zsolt Baumgartner did not take to the track following the news that the team's sporting director John Walton passed away late on Friday night.
