Sauber Hopes Fisichella Stays at his Team

Team owner Peter Sauber said he hopes his star driver Giancarlo Fisichella stays at his team next year, stating the Italian may be better off with a Sauber seat than with a Williams one.

Fisichella is one of the drivers linked to a seat with Williams, but the driver told Atlas F1 he has not yet spoken to the Grove-based outfit. "If [Frank Williams] wants me I am sure he will call," Fisichella said over the weekend.

But his current team boss Peter Sauber believes Williams may not be the best option for Fisichella.

"Giancarlo could have a lot more - he can aim for Ferrari," Sauber told Gazzetta dello Sport. "If Maranello called him, I'd tell him to go straight away. But as far as Williams are concerned, I don't think their drivers are very happy this season.

"On the other hand, our team is on the rise and I think Fisichella could easily stay with

us. At least I really wish so."
