Webber Defiant in Face of Schumacher Criticism

Jaguar's Mark Webber remained defiant on Sunday after Michael Schumacher accused the Australian of almost crashing into him while about to be lapped.

"It was just this little moment of me not seeing him and he would have crashed into me," said the German Ferrari driver after winning the European Grand Prix.

"I don't know what was going through his head, what he was trying to achieve there, but there was a bit of a moment," added the six-times World Champion.

Webber, who finished seventh to hand Jaguar two precious points, was leaving the pitlane and trying to close the gap on Italian Giancarlo Fisichella's Sauber when the incident happened.

"I didn't hold Michael up at all really," he said, adding that he would do exactly the same again if he were to re-run the race. "I went down the inside, braked down the inside and Michael's got the whole thing totally covered."

The Australian said "two points in the bag is exactly what the doctor ordered" but added that Jaguar had to sort out their starts. Webber was 14th on the grid but a problem in engaging the clutch left him having to work his way up the field.

"We have to get it sorted," he said. "It's one of our biggest weaknesses...the pitstops were bad as well, getting away from the stops - I triggered the anti-stall twice leaving the pits, so that was tricky. But overall I'm really, really happy."
